The strength of the soul

No totalitarian/authoritarian regime, war, fear, famine, nor peril— can truly break a person's spirit. History repeats itself, and the proof is the courage shown from the brave students in the language movement, through the struggles of 1969 and 1971, to the movement against the unjust quota system which has now emerged more heroically in 2024.

No totalitarian/authoritarian regime, war, fear, famine, nor peril— can truly break a person’s spirit. History repeats itself, and the proof is the courage shown from the brave students in the language movement, through the struggles of 1969 and 1971, to the movement against the unjust quota system which has now emerged more heroically in 2024. Though this movement began against the quota system it ended in protests for freedom from a dictator who sought to silence our voices.

History proves that no oppressor can eternally suppress the people, no dictator can withstand the unstoppable will of humanity, and no tyrant can rule forever. Every beginning must have an end, and the journey towards that end is what defines it’s true worth.

People say that the month of July, stained by the blood of our martyrs did not end until victory arrived. And so, on the 36th of July 2024 (05/08/2024), a symbolic day that transcends the ordinary calendar, marks a new Victory Day for Bangladesh, destined to be etched in the hearts by all generations, Insha’Allah.

Though we have won, we must understand that victory is more challenging to preserve than it is to achieve. Too often, we Bengalis have failed to safeguard our achievements like what we did after the resignation of Ershad, what we did after achieving victory in ’71. This time, we must make a difference. We must stand firm and resolute to show the world our potential, capabilities—and to demonstrate to the oppressors how we can make a nation truly great.

Long live the motherland!
